In the spirit of Mother’s Day, Kitty’s Flowers has selected one of our own home-grown moms to speak to working with flowers and kids.
Name: Patty Vivalo
Kids first names & ages: John (41,) Katie (38) and Jacqui (35)
How did you get into floral work? I got into the floral business because I
was looking for a creative work environment. I am not a designer, but I
love flowers!
What do you love most about working with flowers? Seeing all the beautiful
designs
Favorite flower? Tulips are my favorite. Their stems continue to grow
after being cut which leads to interest as the arrangement ages. And of
course, as they open, the base of the tulip exposes a beautiful “star” of
color.
If you design, do you have a signature style? Are you known for any
specific approach or preference? I am not a designer, but I do believe that
the cloudiest of days can be brightened with fresh flowers.
What do you love most about being a mom? I have loved watching my children
evolve into happy, productive individuals. And of course, the
grandchildren!!!
What do your kids think about what you do? Are they into flowers? They
love it! They all three have a true appreciation for the beauty of flowers. My
son and son-in-laws all bring home flowers for their wives and don’t wait
for special occasions to do so!
What flowers or flower design do moms really want for Mother’s Day, from
your point of view? Speaking as both a mom and a flower expert? If you
could pick one design from your selection to receive yourself, which would
it be? I think most moms love a garden approach, a mixed bouquet of
flowers arranged in a trendy container. My favorite special this Mother’s
Day is Garden Splendor.
